This is the new vintage of 30.000 Maravedíes (formerly known as Treinta mil Maravedíes), a red wine crafted by the Bodega Marañones winery following the guidelines of organic farming.
Labeled under the Vinos de Madrid Designation of Origin, this wine is produced in the midst of the Gredos Mountains, a region that has been defined as Spain's biggest discovery since Priorat by some influential wine critics.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were partially destemmed, cold-soaked, and fermented in 3,000 and 4,500-litre vats.
After that, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for a period of 8 months in new and used French oak barrels, as well as in 45-hectolitre vats.
Finally, 30.000 Maravedíes 2016 was aged for a further two months prior to its commercial release.
Drink now until 2022. Production around 30,000 bottles.
Decant 30 minutes before drinking.
The Spanish red wine 30.000 Maravedíes has a clean, bright, medium ruby coloured robe with a garnet rim.
Elegant aromatic profile, neither Atlantic nor Mediterranean. This Grenache from Gredos suggests some understated notions of ripe berries, underbush, spices and balsam, nicely combined with remembrances of red flowers, some dim mineral tips and a touch of smoke and toast.
Fresh, smooth and very well-balanced. Though this red wine from Madrid by Bodega Marañones wine is extremely young, it already displays an extremely gentle character. Notes of wild berries, menthol and aromatic herbs. Mild tannins and long, delicate finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Truly characteristic, 30.000 Maravedíes 2016 drinks nicely right now, but it will improve substantially over the next 3 years.
