Totally confident about the quality and potential of Majorca's native varieties, the 2017 vintage of 4 kilos is, for the second time, a single varietal Callet, Mallorca's most relevant indigenous red variety. The grapes come from vines 20 to 50 years old grown in three different estates cooled by sea breezes. Soils are very rich in ferric oxide, a feature that gives the earth an idiosyncratic reddish colour.
Harvested by hand, carefully selected and destemmed, 50% of the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks, and the other 50% in 2,500-litre wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and 600-litre oak barrels. After that, the different parts were blended and aged in 600-litre French oak barrels from Allier for a period of 12 months.
An age-worthy red wine from Mallorca, properly stored it will evolve nicely until 2027. Decant 1 hour before drinking.
As usual, the packaging of this organic red wine is as exquisite as its content. 4 kilos 2017 features a stunning photography from "The art of flying" series, by Dutch visual artist Jan van IJken.

The red wine 4 Kilos has a bright, dark, high cherry-coloured robe with a purple rim.
This red wine by the 4 Kilos winery has a remarkably original aromatic profile, with well-balanced notes of juicy black fruit, pomegranate, Mediterranean herbs, dry earth, liquorice, carob and spices. On the background, some touches of bitter chocolate, coffee and fennel.
|Palate||Cherries and redcurrants dominate the palate of this organic red wine from Mallorca, along with balsamic notes, mineral undertones, earthy sensations and some salty remembrances. This varietal Callet is subtle and medium-bodied, with a fine texture that leaves a smooth, suave sensation. Tannins are crunchy, and acidity is solid and crisp. Long, fruity finish with a great overall elegance.|

The excellent 4 Kilos 2017 shows that the wines from Mallorca have definitely come of age. The island has everything: terroir, climate and grapes. Now it is our turn to re-discover it.

The 2016 is the best vintage so far, no question about it. I think this defines a paradigm of what Majorcan wines should be. Deeply Mediterranean, and also supremely elegant.

Absolutely lovely wine, it keeps getting better with each vintage. The winemakers have really fine-tuned it and now it is the best wine from Mallorca. No question about it.
The best wine from Mallorca? This Callet grape has a very original profile, fresh, linear and nicely textured. This wine reminds me of some great Italian reds.
