In the last years, the wines produced in the Canary Islands have experienced an exciting renaissance.
Produced by Suertes del Marqués, 7 Fuentes Vino de Villa 2015 can be a good starting point for getting to know one of Spain's hottest wine regions.
Produced in Valle de la Orotava, in the island of Tenerife, the grapes were carefully harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts.
After that, 60% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation in concrete vats and 40% in French oak barrels. Once the process was completed, both were aged for 8 months. Then the wine was blended and aged for 12 months in the bottle before its release.
Decant this red wine from Tenerife 30 minutes before drinking.
Drink until 2021+.
7 Fuentes Vino de Villa has a medium cherry-coloured robe with a reddish rim.
This red wine by Bodega Suertes del Marqués suggests aromas of strawberries, cherries, some vegetal and spicy nuances and notes of aromatic herbs. On the background, there is a distinctive, deep, dark mineral remembrance coming from the volcanic terroir.
Refreshing, crisp and intense, with intense mineral notions, notes of wild berries, and remembrances of spices, wild plants and flowers. This red wine from Valle de la Orotava is still quite young, with plenty of room for growth. Yummy tannins, tense acidity and long finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Original and characteristic, 7 Fuentes Vino de Villa 2015 proves that the fuss about the wines of the Canary Islands is definitely justified.

I had this wine for the first time at Del Mar Restaurant in Washington D.C.. It was surprisingly smooth for a smokey wine. The Smokey flavor was not overpowering and it paired well with the seafood tapas we enjoyed.
This is a smooooth, smokey wine. Fresh and easy to drink, I compare it with some Sicilian Etna reds. In any case, an excellent wine indeed.
