The singular 9/X is an unconventional Pinot Noir produced by Celler de Capçanes. This Spanish red wine is made from grapes coming from a single plot planted in the year 2002. Located at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level, the soils are composed mainly of clay and the yields are extremely low.
Harvested by hand at the beginning of September, after a meticulous selection process the grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts.
After that, Pinot Noir de Capçanes underwent malolactic fermentation in 300-litre French oak barrels. Then this red wine from Montsant was aged for 12 months. Finally, it was clarified with egg whites and not filtered before its bottling.
Decant 9/X Pinot Noir de Capçanes 2014 1 hour before drinking.
Drink until 2022. This is a very rare wine with a ridiculously low production of 800 bottles.
The red wine Pinot Noir de Capçanes has a bright cherry colour with some garnet tinges.
An unexpected mixture of sheer Pinot Noir sophistication and Mediterranean liveliness. Juicy red fruid and black cherry fruit preserve, nuanced by aromas of tobacco, vanilla, balsam, blue flowers and toast. On the background, rich suggestions of underbrush, mineral and dry earth.
This red wine by Celler de Capçanes is joyful, smooth and intense. This Mediterranean Pinot Noir contrasts starkly with the Pinots from Burgundy or New Zealand, which usually have a much more restrained and autumnal character. Here we find very pure notions of fruit, some deep mineral and earthy intimations and a dash of garrigue and Mediterranean aromatic herbs. Good acidity, well-rounded tannins and long finish.
|Our personal opinion||
Certainly a rarity, but also a very good wine in its own right, 9/X Pinot Noir de Capçanes 2014 pairs wonderfully with meat, and also with oily fishes.
