Abadal 5 Merlot, from the Pla de Bages Designation of Origin, is made from Merlot grapes coming from 5 estates located near the Catalan side of the Pyrenées.

The grapes of this Crianza red wine crafted by the Abadal winery were harvested at an optimal ripening point and carefully selected before being brought in little boxes to the winery's facilities.

Destemmed and transferred into stainless steel tanks, the wine was macerated and fermented for over a period of 20 days at a controlled temperature.

After that, Abadal 5 Merlot 2015 was aged for 12 months in French, American and Central-European oak barrels, where it also completed malolactic fermentation.

Finally, this varietal Merlot red wine was aged for a further 6 months in the bottle.

Drink until 2022.

Additional Information

Abadal 5 Merlot has a dark cherry colour with a garnet rim.

This Merlot from Pla de Bages has a well-defined varietal character. Aromas of black currants and cherries, along with some remembrances of dry earth, cocoa, toast, vanilla and sweet spices.

This Crianza red wine by the Abadal winery is bold and fresh. Delicately sweet, creamy remembrances of red fruit and spices punctuated by some mineral touches. Smooth texture, gentle tannins and a medium-long finish.

Our personal opinion

Abadal 5 Merlot 2015 is an elegant wine that pairs well with stews and, say, a red lentil and chickpea soup.
