Produced in the DO Pla de BagesAbadal Merlot is made from Merlot grapevines scattered over 5 plots.

The grapes of this Crianza red wine crafted by the Abadal winery were harvested at an optimal ripening point, and carefully selected before being brought in little boxes to the facilities.

Destemmed and transferred into stainless steel tanks, the wine was macerated and fermented at a controlled temperature.

After that, Abadal 5 Merlot 2016 was aged for 12 months in French, American and Central-European oak barrels, where it also completed malolactic fermentation.

Finally, this red wine from Pla de Bages was aged for a further 6 months in the bottle.

Drink until 2024.

Additional Information

The red wine Abadal 5 Merlot has a dark cherry colour with a garnet rim.

This varietal Merlot from Pla de Bages has a well-defined character. Aromas of black currants and cherries, along with some remembrances of dry earth, cocoa, toast, vanilla and sweet spices.

Bold and fresh, with a delicately sweet, distinctive note of coffee and moka, some creamy remembrances of red fruit and spices, punctuated by some mineral touches. This red wine by Bodegas Abadal has a smooth texture, with gentle tannins and a medium-long finish, slightly reminiscent of a chocolate-flavoured liqueur.

Our personal opinion

An elegant wine, Abadal 5 Merlot 2016 pairs well with stews and, say, a red lentil and chickpea soup.
