Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial is the best-known wine of the Abadía Retuerta winery.
It is made from estate vineyards located on the banks of the Duero river, in the northern Spanish province of Castilla y León.
After a pre-fermentation cold-maceration, the three wine musts were independently fermented in stainless steel tanks and consequently drawn off. Once the wine completed malolactic fermentation, it was transferred into French and American oak barrels and aged for 16 to 22 months.
Finally, it was blended and bottled without being neither clarified nor filtered. Before its commercial release, it spent some months ageing in the cellar.
We recommend that you decant the wine a minimum of 30 minutes before drinking.
Great ageing potential. Drink Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2013 from now until 2027+.
Clean, intense, high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.
This elegant and classic wine by Abadia Retuerta winery shows more fruit than in previous vintages. Notes of blackberries, plums and wild berries, some lactic touches, hints of tobacco, spices and liquorice and, finally, an evocative mineral background.
Smooth and fresh, with some dim, well-integrated oaky notes over a mineral background and a first layer of red fruit, intense and savoury. Some lactic nuances, evocative notes of Eastern spices, a tense acidity and firm tannins give way to a long, balsamic finish. Excellent structure and wonderful balance.
|Our personal opinion||
Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2013 embodies the elegant side of Ribera del Duero, although it does not formally belong to this designation of origin. A wine to drink right now, but also a wine to store for some years.
