Details

Alquez 2015, crafted by the Alianza de Garapiteros winery, is a Spanish red wine produced in the rugged, remote lands of Calatayud, located in the northern Spanish province of Aragón.

A single varietal Grenache wine, the grapes come from low-yielding, over 60-year-old vines planted on slate soils at an altitude of 950 metres above sea level.

The grapes were harvested during the second half of October and selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

Destemmed and delicately crushed, they were macerated for 10 days prior to alcoholic fermentation.

After that, this red wine from Calatayud was aged in French oak barrels for 14 months with frequent stirrings of the lees in order to extract colour and phenolic compounds.

Drink now until 2022.

Additional Information

Appearance

This Spanish Grenache wine has a medium cherry-coloured robe with some violet tinges.

Nose

The red wine Alquez by Alianza de Garapiteros conveys some intense notes of strawberries and raspberries, some mineral undertones, notes of chocolate and some hints of smoke and toffee.

Palate

Fresh and subtle, this old-vines Grenache from Aragón shows notes of spices, red fruit, balsam and cocoa. Velvety bodied, with slightly dry tannins, great freshness and a long finish with remembrances of candied fruit, bitter herbs and chocolate.

Our personal opinion

Alquez 2015 is an excellent value that faithfully conveys the remarkable character of the old Grenache vines from Calatayud.

I love sun-drenched Grenache wines with lots of red fruit. This was perfect for me. Ridiculously good price.
