Details

This single malt smoked whisky from the island of Islay has a 57.1% alcohol volume. We must drink this whisky with caution as it is a very powerful hard alcohol. Anything that can result from drinking this whisky, regardless of the situation, will be locked away in the history of the name, Corryvreckan. Nevertheless, this whisky seduces us in the same manner that we would expect from a whisky of the Ardbeg distillery. Corryvreckan is the name for a maritime whirlpool that is located in the narrow strait between the Scottish islands of Jura and Scarba. There are many legends about this unique location. One of which is a legend of the Viking Prince Breacan who wanted to impress his love from the island of Islay by showing her his brute strength. He decided to do so by challenging the pure might of Mother Nature herself. Prince Breacan did this by taking his knarr (Viking vessel) into the Corryvreckan maritime whirlpool for three nights. Due to some misfortune or simply the raw physical power of this whirlpool, Prince Breacan and his knarr were engulfed by the whirlpool and have yet to be seen since to this day. As this romance story goes, the goddess of romance dwells under the whirlpool and has kept the prince in a maritime trance, a dark prison, in silence and stillness ever since. In any event, Ardbeg has returned from the Corryvreckan, and if you are wondering what it is like, try this whisky. You will taste the indomitable spirit, the power, and even the danger of mighty whirlpool of Corryvreckan. Just seeing this whisky in a glass, the malt whisky Ardbeg Corryvreckan, it has seduced us with its warm amber appearance that is intense and bright. This whisky has a good glyceric charge and it is pleasantly silky. This whisky has a gamy entrance into the nose that us invasive with a world of intense sensations that are presented one after another. We can compare the aromatics of this whisky as if we flipped the whirlpool upside down as if the fragrant aromas of Corryvreckan were being expelled out of this glass. There are intense and powerful peat aromatics that are entwined with natural oils and pinaceae resin notes. These aromatics are defined by nuanced dark chocolate aromas along with bitter burnt sugar aromatics. As this whisky is able to breathe and open to the air we are presented with new aromas that are reminiscent of maritime iodine. These are salty aromatics that are presented alongside spicy seasonings and sweet vanilla notes. This is a heady and complex whisky. The palate of Ardbeg Corryvreckan can be even more overwhelming than the nose. We only drink this whisky with very small ships as just one sip can bring a tear to the eye since this whisky has over 57% alcohol by volume. This whisky has a pure consistency that is very expressive and engaging. This whisky has a spicy palate that is profound and wild that can sweep you off your feet. And this is just the beginning. This Ardbeg whisky from Islay, Corryvreckan, leaves our mouths watering with its flavorful coffee notes, black wild forest berries, bitter burnt sugars, and balsamic notes. This whisky has an intense finish that is dry and accompanied by nuanced floral notes.
