This is the new vintage of Biu de Sort, a high-altitude Spanish white wine produced by the Celler Batlliu de Sort, a company based in the mountainous region of Pallars Sobirà (Lleida).
Interestingly, the winery carries out environmentally-friendly farming practices and follows the guidelines of organic and biodynamic agriculture.
Harvest of this high-altitude white wine was performed by hand. The grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks and aged on its lees for over a period of 14 months.
This is a very pure, interesting white wine from the DO Costers del Segre, right on the Catalan side of the Pyrénées.
Drink Biu de Sort 2016 until 2022.
The white wine Biu de Sort has a bright, slightly greenish colour with some steely tinges.
This blend of Riesling & Viognier from Costers del Segre has an enticing nose. Crystalline aromas of white fruit and vibrant notions of citrus, along with aromas of flowers, undergrowth, fennel, water and wet earth.
Unctuous and well-balanced, this white wine by Celler Batlliu de Sort suggests some prominent notes of citrus, aromatic herbs, white fruit and petroleum. Great acidity and long finish with some bitter remembrances.
|Our personal opinion||
The uncommon Biu de Sort 2016 will pair excellently with a great Foie Gras from Strasbourg, or with some Bluefin tuna marinated in a Premium Spanish Extra Virgin Olive oil.
Biu de Sort 2015:
Biu de Sort 2014:
85% Riesling & 15% Viognier. Enterwine 92.
Biu de Sort 2013:

Mouth-watering white from the Iberian side of Pirineos. Texture I find particularly appealing.
Quite pure, with an innuendo of flowers and tropical fruit. Delicious.
An ingenious blend. Viognier brings sexiness and Riesling acidity. The result is very nice. Peaches, tropical fruit, a touch of honey and a long finish.
