NEW PARKER SCORES FOR LA RIOJA
Like every year, Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's correspondent in Spain, has published his assessment of the wines from La Rioja.
This time, Mr. Gutiérrez tasted the staggering number of 723 wines. Needless to say, we cannot offer you the whole list. Nevertheless, we have prepared a selecion of wines ranging from excellent to superlative. Here it is.
RIOJA AT THE CROSSROADS
With 63,593 hectares of vineyards and more than 800 wineries belonging to it, the region of Rioja is, no question about it, the most important and prestigious wine region in the whole of Spain.
Rioja has a winemaking tradition that harks back more than 2,000 years ago. It was the first wine region in Spain to be recognized as a Designation of Origin, in June 6th 1925.

Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's man in Spain, has finally published his much-awaited article about the wines of La Rioja. As he did last year, Mr. Gutiérrez, while acknowledging the greatness of classic Rioja, also pays close attention to the work of the new generation. A generation that, in many cases, is unashamedly turning upside down the venerable traditions of Spain's most prestigious wine region.
