One of the boldest expressions of the Grenache grape, Breca by Jorge Ordóñez comes from the region of Calatayud. Interestingly, that mountainous and harsh region in the northern Spanish region of Aragón is believed by many to be the cradle of Grenache.
The grapes used to produce this Spanish red wine come from old vines planted between 1925 and 1945 in very poor soils. The plants are located at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level and grow under extremely hard climatic conditions with great temperature differences between daytime and nighttime.
Manually harvested, the grapes were selected at the vineyard and also in the facilities of the Breca winery. Then they were fermented and macerated for 12 days in stainless steel tanks and then aged in French oak barrels for 12 to 14 months.
We strongly suggest that you decant Breca 2015 a minimum of 30 minutes before you drink it.
Drink this red wine from Calatayud now to 2023.
The red wine Breca has an intense, bright, clean cherry-coloured robe with a ruby rim.
This single varietal Grenache by Jorge Ordóñez shows intense notes of ripe black fruit, combined with dim touches of vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa and moka. As it opens, the wine offers notions of violets and some liquorice undertones and deep mineral remembrances.
Meaty, intense and yummy, this red wine from Calatayud by Bodegas Breca coats the palate with velvety notes of blackberries and cranberries, black chocolate and liquor-infused fruit. Great tension and good acidity. Ripe tannins and long, spicy finish with, again, some earthy and mineral undertones.
|Our personal opinion||
A rugged delight, Breca 2015 from Calatayud is a vibrant wine from an ancestral land.
