It is made from 60 to 110-year old, low-yielding Grenache grapevines planted in granitic soils located at altitudes between 500 and 600 metres.
After a meticulous harvest and a traditional vinification in stainless steel tanks, the grapes were transferred into new, 228-litre French oak barrels, where they completed malolactic fermentation.
After that, Cabrida 2015 was aged for 12 months in those same barrels. Finally, this red wine from Montsant was further aged for 3 months in vats.
Drink over the next 6-8 years. Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Production of only 3,500 bottles.
The red wine Cabrida has an intense cherry colour with some purplish tinges.
Complex and truly deep, the 2015 vintage of this red wine by Celler de Capçanes shows a clear shift towards greater subtlety and freshness. Enticing mineral undertones, remembrances of wet earth, forest floor and Mediterranean garrigue, alongside some extremely pure notions of red and black fruit and fragrant aromas of menthol, resin and eucalyptus, nuanced by touches of cocoa, spices and toast. Both intoxicatingly Mediterranean and wonderfully elegant.
Smooth, fresh and very original, with an excellent acidity, an intrincate structure and a promising complexity. This old-vines Grenache is full of wild berries, with some smokey and spicy nuances, remembrances of flowers and herbs and profund mineral undertones. Bold tannins and extremely long finish.
|Our personal opinion||
One of the best-and scarcest-Grenache wines produced in Catalonia, Cabrida 2015 from Montsant is utterly delightful.

A deeply classic Mediterranean wine -Gott sei dank. Fortunately, the Capcanes winery has not tried to resemble Burgundy at all costs -truly a modern winemaking plague-and has not been lead astray by all the "natural wine" drivel either. All in all, a juicy and fleshy wine, with depth and, as the French say, mâche.
I would recommend this to the lovers of deep, intense, fruit-forward wines with an earthy twist.
