Details

The Dominio de Cair winery, a brand of the Luis Cañas winery, produces Cair from 40 to 50-year-old vineyards belonging to the DO Ribera del Duero.

After a meticulous selection, the Tempranillo grapes of this Spanish red wine were harvested by hand and selected in the cellar. The grapes underwent a cold-maceration in order to extract colour and aromas, and a subsequent alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.

Malolactic fermentation took place in new French and American oak barrels (50% - 50%), where this Crianza red wine was aged for 14 months.

Finally, the wine was bottled and aged in the for a further 12 months before its release.

Decant Cair 2014, a perfect wine to accompany meat dishes, 30 minutes before drinking.

Additional Information

Appearance

The wine Cair has an attractive cherry colour and maroon edges. Bright and clean.

Nose

Intense and well-balanced, this Tempranillo suggests some toasted and moka aromas, alongside a creamy black fruit nuanced by black spices (pepper), cocoa and balsam. As the wine opens, we perceive remembrances of leather, fine wood and underbrush.

Palate

With a friendly entrance, this red wine from Dominio de Cair is silky and tasty, showing a good balance between the fruit and the oak. Good acidity and slightly rugged tannins that will mellow over time and show that the wine still has some good years ahead. Very long, creamy finish with a balsamic and earthy aftertaste.

Our personal opinion

Tasty and deep, Cair 2014 is a wine that deserves serious attention. A truly nice Tempranillo from the DO Ribera del Duero.

  1. Cair wine review by Dietmar on 7/26/2018

One of my all-time top 3 Riberas. Mouthful and fresh, with dark fruit, after eight and dry earth.

  2. A big mouthful of luscious dark fruit review by Kevin Castner on 10/2/2017

I came across the Cair 2011 Crianza while vacationing on Mallorca a year ago. Since then I've ordered 5 cases to be delivered to our home in Germany. I thought it was wonderful (still have some and still do), and I was worried when Enterwine ran out and was only able to offer the 2012. I needn't have worried. The dark, fruit forward profile is still the same. This is a very similar wine with juicy roundness, the fruit luscious but not sweet or too jammy. The wine (the crianza was aged in oak) has, for me, just the right amount of structure. So, I'd guess it'll last for a few years but is delightful to drink right now (and I had a bottle last night). Enjoy!
