A single varietal Tempranillo, Chafandín is also a single estate wine made from 40-year-old grapevines located in Pesquera del Duero, in the heart of Ribera del Duero.

After a meticulous harvest, the grapes of this Spanish red wine were gently crushed and the wine must was fermented for 12 days in stainless steel tanks.

Then this red wine from Ribera del Duero was macerated with the skins for over a period of 17 days, after which it completed malolactic fermentation in 300-litre French oak barrels. Finally, it was transferred into new oak barrels and aged for 17 months

Decant Chafandín 2014, produced by Viñas del Jaro, 30 minutes before drinking.

The red wine Chafandín has a clean, very bright, medium-high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.


A purebred Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, with some intense, well-balanced aromas of cranberries and blueberries, alongside notes of fine wood and flowers, underpinned by some mineral undertones and hints of roasted coffee, cocoa and balsam.


Voluptuous and bold, this red wine by Bodegas del Jaro feels quite young and a bit impetuous, with plenty of room for growth. Rock-solid acidity, big structure and promising definition, with remembrances of wild berries, clean and pure, some mineral notions, and hints of undergrowth, spices and violets. Long, expansive finish.

Our personal opinion

A serious wine, Chafandín 2014 will improve considerably over the next years. Pair it with substantial meat dishes.

    This is one of those Riberas that needs time to settle. It is beginning to unfurl, letting itself loose and showing the tail like a peacock. Excellent.

    A top player in Ribera. Meaty, juicy, with a fresh core and a long, earthy finish. I think this will age sensationally well.
