Details

Crafted by Castillo de Perelada in the DO Empordà, Cigonyes Tinto is made from a blend of local and international grapes.

Namely, the composition of this Spanish red wine consists of 57% Grenache, 29% Syrah and 14% Merlot.

The grapes were harvested by hand and, once in the winery, they were destemmed and transferred into stainless steel vats, where they realized a pre-fermentation maceration. Then they were fermented at a controlled temperature, and after that this red wine from L'Empordà was transferred into 2nd year French and American oak barrels, where it was aged for 5 months.

Nicely presented in a Burgundy bottle, Cigonyes Tinto 2017 should be enjoyed over the next 2 years.

As regards the name of the wine, Cigonyes (Storks) alludes to a successful stork repopulation program undertaken some years ago by the Castillo Perelada winery.

Additional Information

Appearance

The Spanish red wine Cigonyes Tinto presents a lively violet colour with ruby reflections.

Nose

This red wine by Castillo de Perelada suggests aromas of red and black fruit, in harmony with oak ageing aromas and balsamic notes. This nose is also reminiscent of some native Mediterranean herbs from L'Empordà.

Palate

Pleasant and well-balanced, this red wine from L'Empordà has a nice entrance onto the palate, accompanied by a good acidity. Some subdued ageing notes become present after a while, alongside some smooth, freshly cut vegetable notes. There is a silky finish with remembrances of wild berries and aromatic herbs.

Our personal opinion

An excellent value, Cigonyes Tinto 2017 pairs well with light dishes.
