This is the new vintage of Cims de Porrera Vi de Vila, produced by the Cims de Porrera winery. Currently, the company is owned by the prestigious Pérez Family.
A sort of Priorat aristocracy, their members include the patriarch José Luis Pérez, founder of Mas Martinet, his daughter Sara Pérez, co-owner of Venus La Universal, and, finally, Marc & Adrià Pérez, cousins and makers of this wine, which some years ago substituted the legendary Solanes.
The name of this wine - "Porrera Vi de Vila" means "Village wine from Porrera", - reflects the new set of regulations established by the DOQ Priorat, aimed to guarantee that the grapes of the wine come solely from the village specified in the label.
Meticulously crafted, this red wine from Priorat was fermented and macerated at a controlled temperature, after which it was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Most significantly, Cims de Porrera Vi de Vila 2014 was aged for 3-4 years in the bottle before its release onto the market.
Decant this Crianza red wine 1 hour before drinking.
Drink over the next 6 years.
The red wine Cims de Porrera Vi de Vila shows a medium-high cherry-coloured robe with purple tinges and a garnet rim.
This red wine from Porrera is intense and deep, with ripe red fruit, black pepper, clove, liquorice and some delicate mineral and balsamic hints. This red wine by the Cims de Porrera winery also suggests some aromas of vanilla and toast in the background, nuanced by remembrances of aromatic herbs.
This blend of Grenache and Carignan gives all that we would expect from a Crianza red wine from Priorat. Loads of red fruit over a mineral background, notes of dry herbs, hints of spices and a subtle touch of oak. Ripe tannins, rounded by the ageing process, and a fresh acidity give way to a long, spicy finish with some fruity overtones. Lively and full of character.

I bought this wine because I particularly enjoy wines that have spent some years in the bottle and are released at a mature stage. I was not disappointed. The heart and soul of Priorat.
