The grapes come from five little plots located in a privileged environment at the heart of the world-famous Priorat, a land where medieval monks started growing grapes back in the 12th century.
Harvested at an optimal ripening point, the grapes were macerated for 21 days, after which each variety was separately fermented in stainless steel tanks.
Blended and transferred into French and American oak barrels, the wine was then aged for 12 months.
Prior to its bottling, Clos Galena 2013 was gently clarified with egg whites. Finally, it was aged for 24 months in the bottle before its release.
Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.
Drink until 2025.
Clos Galena has a very high, imposing cherry-coloured robe with garnet tinges and a purple hue at the rim.
The nose of this organic red wine by Domini de la Cartoixa is truly spectacular. Ripe black fruit, blood orange rind, vanille, clove and Jamaican pepper, along with notes of aniseed, balsam, resine, aromatic herbs and, at the very bottom, a never-ending mineral pulse.
Though this mighty Spanish red wine from Priorat is still in its adolescence, it shows its great class by displaying loads of black fruit, chocolate and Mediterranean herbs. The wine has tremendous freshness, and its texture, both supple and meaty, is simply irresistible. Very long finish with notes of blackberries, the purest arabica coffee and exotic spices.
|Our personal opinion||
Yes, it is true that we have a soft spot for Priorat. Nevertheless, when one has the chance to drink such exuberant, terroir-orientated wines as this Clos Galena 2013, it is difficult not to fall in love with the region.
