The 2015 vintage, incidentally, was considered "Very Good" by the Rioja regulatory board.
The grapes come from the 62-hectare estate owned by Viñedos del Contino in Laguardia, in the heart of La Rioja.
After a meticulous selection, once in the cellar they were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a temperature between 28ºC and 30ºC.
After a period of 20 days, this Spanish red wine was transferred into used American (60%) and French (40%) oak barrels, where it remained for 24 months.
Finally, this classic red wine from Rioja was aged between 12 and 24 months in the cellar prior to its commercial release.
We suggest that you decant Contino Reserva 2015 1 hour before drinking.
The excellent Contino Reserva has a medium-high, cherry-coloured robe with a claret rim.
Both understated and confident, this reserve red wine suggests some delicate, gentle notes of black and red berries, prominent aromas of raisins, a dash of clove, vanilla and cinnamon, and some hints of toffee, withered vegetables and mineral undertones. On the background, this wine by Viñedos del Contino points to black truffle and old Moroccan leather.
A wine that embodies like few others the elegance of traditional Rioja, Contino Reserva is lush and textured, with dim toasted notes, sweet spices and fresh notes of balsam, alongside fresh flavours of red fruit. Ripe, sweet tannins and well-balanced acidity. Long, subtle finish with some remembrances of dry earth, balsam and spices.
