Interestingly, this sweet Spanish red wine is produced from some of the vineyards nearest to the city of Barcelona, at a distance of only 2 km to the Mediterranean sea. The vines grow in the sandy soils typical of the DO Alella, locally known as Sauló.
Farmed following the guidelines of organic farming, the grapes were late harvested, fermented and then macerated with the skins for 6 months in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs.
Then they were pressed, and finally Dolç Mataró 2017 was aged for 2 months in French oak barrels.
This sweet wine from Alella is sensuous and captivating.
The red wine Dolç Mataró has an intense cherry colour with a purple rim.
At first, this sweet red wine smells very intensely of ripe red and black fruit, with prominent notes of cherries, blackberries and plums, typical of the Mataró (Monastrell) variety. Slowly, there appear some aromas of orange rind, sweet spices, cocoa, flowers and a distant remembrance of green tea.
Palate-coating, this sweet wine by Alta Alella has a lavish texture and a delicately warm core balanced with an excellent freshness and a good acidity. Juicy and intense, this organic red wine from Alella has an aftertaste reminiscent of citrus, cocoa, lavender, and blue flowers.
|Our personal opinion||
Truly exquisite, Dolç Mataró 2017 is a not-so-well-known delicacy. It pairs wonderfully well with dark chocolate and blue cheeses.

This sweet red wine is delicious, because despite its sweetness it manages to keep a high degree of freshness. Texture is super cool and sexy. I particularly enjoy this kind of wines with very dark chocolate.
