Details

Don PX 1987 Gran Reserva is a sweet fortified wine produced in the Andalusian region of Montilla-Moriles.

The wine is a single varietal Pedro Ximénez made from grapes that were naturally sun-dried prior to being fermented.

After that, the wine was aged following the traditional oxidative ageing technique, known in Spanish as "soleras y criaderas", for a minimum of 25 years prior to its bottling.

Don PX 1987 Gran Reserva is crafted by the Toro Albalá winery, arguably the most renowned producer of sweet wines in Córdoba.

Additional Information

Appearance

Very dense, bright, clean, high chocolate-coloured robe with a deep iodine rim.

Nose

Pedro Ximénez 1987 Gran Reserva is very complex. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, liquorice, tobacco and sweet spices. On the background, notions of aromatic herbs, fruit compote and a subtle note of black olives.

Palate

Powerful, sweet and venerable. Velvety bodied and round, with a very good acidity, a marvelous texture and an endless finish with remembrances of prunes, cocoa, spices, tobacco, figs, aromatic herbs and... you name it.

Our personal opinion

Don PX 1987 Gran Reserva is what has sometimes been described, quite aptly, as a "meditation wine".

If you like Cuban cigars, there are few pairings more enjoyable. Also great with dark chocolate and as a meditation wine sitting by the fireplace.
