We know that Galicia is a land of great white wines. However, what most people still don't know is that the region also produces some interesting Spanish red wines.
The result? Not your ordinary Spanish red wine, that's for sure! An Atlantic-style wine, DoUmia 2016 is fresh, subtle and, above all, unconventional. Handpicked and cold-soaked, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and subsequently aged on its lees for between 9 and 12 months.
Production of this Galician white wine is around 5,000 bottles.
The red wine DoUmia has a delicate, medium cherry robe with a ruby-violet rim.
Suprisingly rich - to say the least - on the nose, this blend of Mencía, Caíño & Espadeiro begins by suggesting subtle notes of menthol and fine wood, followed by tobacco and dried flowers. Then the fruit slowly appears, gaining momentum and growing over a mineral background. We smell black fruits, raisins and red fruits, but also eucalyptus, dry bay, wet undergrowth and... you name it. The wine even shows tangerine and citrus notes.
Clean and smooth, this red wine by Adega Pedralonga has an excellent balance, some savoury tannins and a backbone of acidity that makes it tremendously fresh. The palate evokes red fruit, spicebox and citrus, with some dried vegetables and deep mineral undertones. Long finish. Wet, balsamic aftertaste.
