Why "regrettably"? Because the best vintages of this single varietal White Grenache stand comparison with some of southern Rhône's great white wines. This is not an opinion, but a verifiable statement.
A single varietal White Grenache, Edetària Selecció Blanc 2016 is made from over 60-year-old vines grown in "Panal," a very particular kind of soil made of fossilized dunes, which bring a distinctive minerality and finesse to the wine.
Harvested by hand and selected in the vineyard, this white wine from Terra Alta was carefully vinified and aged in new, 300-litre French oak barrels for 8 months.
Drink over the next 10 years. Decant a minimum of 30 minutes before drinking.
The wine Edetària Selecció Blanc has a bright yellow colour with some golden tinges.
Complex and elusive, extremely young, this old-vines White Grenache suggests some distant notes of smoke, spices and dry fruit, combined with aromas of ripe white fruit, a nice bouquet of flowers, a salty touch and some remembrances of aromatic herbs and Mediterranean garrigue over a diffuse layer of minerality.
Well-balanced, detailed and quite confident, this white wine by Edetària has a juvenile exuberance which needs some years to settle down. Predominantly mineral, the fruit is sustained by an excellent acidity. A wine with a distinctive personality, this White Grenache from Terra Alta ends with a delicately bitter, elegant note.

One of Catalonia's best and lesser known white wines, Edetària Selecció Blanc 2016 pairs wonderfully with hearty fish dishes, white meat or consistent rice recipes.
