The exceedingly interesting El Hombre Bala is one of the three wines crafted by the Comando G winery within the Uvas Felices ("Happy Grapes") project.
Both varieties come from old vines from 50 to 100 years of age grown in plots composed of granite soils, located at altitudes between 900 and 1000 metres and farmed following biodynamic principles. The wine is marketed under the Vinos de Madrid DO label.
The vineyards are located in Sierra de Gredos (Gredos mountain range), an area that, despite not having any legal recognition due to bureaucratic ineptitude, has raised to prominence as one of Spain's hottest wine spots.
Separately harvested and vinified, the grape bunches were destemmed and then fermented and macerated in wooden vats and French oak barrels. Then El Hombre Bala 2016 was aged for 10 months in 400 and 700-litre French oak barrels.
Drink this red wine from Madrid over the next 6 years. Decant 1 hour before drinking.
The red wine El Hombre Bala has a very bright, clean, low cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
First thing we notice in this Grenache from Madrid is the remarkable purity of the nose. Red berries, lollipop and bitter herbs, alongside a touch of fennel, toast and spices. As this wine from Sierra de Gredos opens, we perceive nuances of liquor-infused fruit, violets and underbrush.
Lively and elegant, this wine by Comando G is reminiscent of ripe red fruit, aniseed, aromatic herbs and sweet spices. Good acidity, with a real sense of terroir and polished tannins. Long finish with some underbrush remembrances and hints of flowers and menthol.

I love this wine. Gredos is a fascinating region.
I really enjoyed this garnacha from Gredos. It is delicately mineral and very expressive. Excellent!!!
