The estate has over 25 hectares of vineyards devoted to El Puntido. They were planted in 1975 at nearly 600 metres above sea level in soils full of clay with calcareous elements. These vineyards are farmed following organic procedures.
After a meticulous harvest carried out in mid October, followed by an exacting selection process, the grapes were destemmed and underwent a pre-fermentation maceration that lasted for five days at a constant 6 ºC. During that process, gentle pump-overs and punch-downs were performed. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out over a period of eight to ten days at temperatures held constant between 28 and 30 ºC, with two-to-three pump-overs being preformed daily.
Then this crianza red wine from La Rioja was macerated for 8 days and then it transferred into new French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 16 months.
Decant El Puntido 2014 a minimum of 1 hour before drinking. Drink over the next 12-14 years.
Production around 40,000 bottles.
The red wine El Puntido has an intense cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.
|Nose||Wondrous aromatic intensity, with aromas of blackberries and liquorice notes that are reminiscent of syrup. As this Tempranillo from La Rioja opens it shows nuanced balsamic remembrances, some mineral notions and hints of black earth, truffles and charcoal, combined with spices such as vanilla, clove and cardamom, alongside remembrances of flowers and underbush.|
Full of volume, meaty and palate-coating. This crianza red wine by Viñedos de Páganos suggests flavourful black fruits, ripe plums, mulberries and some nuanced balsamic notes, combined with mineral remembrances, some earthy notions and touches of spices, balsam and herbs. Very good acidity, bold tannins and long, elegant finish. Still young, it will considerably improve over the next years.

The exuberant El Puntido 2014 is a first-class red wine. The Eguren Family really have a knack for Tempranillo.
