El Transistor 2016, by Telmo Rodríguez, one of Spain's most prominent oenologists, was born in the region of La Seca, in the Rueda DO, the cradle of the Verdejo grape.

Thos Spanish white wine is made from old vines grown in poor, rocky-limestone soils with very low levels of organic matter.

Harvest was carried out manually. After that, the grapes were fermented using indigenous yeasts in differently shaped and sized vats and barrels made of wood, concrete and stainless steel.

Once that complex process was finished, the wine was aged for 9 months in different containers, blended and aged for a further 6 months in the bottle prior to its release.

This old-vines Verdejo white wine by Telmo Rodriguez will drink excellently over the next 4-5 years.

Production around 12,000 bottles.

Additional Information

El Transistor has a pale, bright, clean yellow colour with golden tinges.

This white wine by Telmo Rodríguez shows aromas of juicy white fruit, citrus, white flowers and freshly-cut grass, along with some elegant, restrained notes coming from the ageing process.

Lighter and subtler than one might expect, this Verdejo from Rueda is crisp, dry and really fresh. Remembrances of flowers, white fruit, aromatic herbs and citrus, along with hints of yeasts, some mineral undertones and a dash of spices and smoke. Well-balanced acidity and long, slightly bitter finish, trademark of the Verdejo grape.

Our personal opinion

El Transistor 2016 is a different Verdejo. Well-structured, terroir-oriented and less fruity than most of the wines made from this variety.

  1. Verdejo review by Rod from Surrey on 10/23/2017

Thelmo Rodrigues is a top Spanish winemaker, and this is one of Spain's top Verdejos. Citrus, stone fruit, it coats the palate and has a smooth, silky body. Great finish.
