One of the two top-shelf wines of bodega Abadía de Poblet, a brand of Grupo Codorníu, Abadía de Poblet La Font Voltada is arguably the best varietal Trepat from DO Conca de Barberà, the cradle of the variety.
This one-of-a-kind Spanish red wine is produced from grapes coming from La Font Voltada, a terraced vineyard with different sun orientations composed of clay-limestone soils. One of the oldest Trepat vineyards in the region, it is located between the villages of Sarral and Montbrió de la Marca.
Hand-harvested in late October - bear in mind that Trepat is a late-ripening variety - the grapes were fermented whole bunch with native yeasts in concrete diposits under controlled temperature. After that, Abadía de Poblet La Font Voltada 2017 was aged for 14 months in 600-litre used oak vats.
Gently aerate some time before drinking.

Strikingly expressive and really sophisticated, this Trepat shows beguiling aromas of white pepper, rose petals, damson and sour cherries, with hints of Mediterranean garrigue, intriguing mineral suggestions and subtle spicy hints.
Medium-bodied, this wine from Abadía de Poblet has a phenomenal acidity, a nice tannic backbone and an electric, lively character. Poised, subtle and precise, it has a very long finish with some mineral and floral remembrances.
