One of the two top-shelf wines of bodega Abadía de Poblet, a brand of Grupo Codorníu, Abadía de Poblet La Font Voltada is arguably the best varietal Trepat from DO Conca de Barberà, the cradle of the variety.
This one-of-a-kind Spanish red wine is produced from grapes coming from La Font Voltada, a terraced vineyard with different sun orientations composed of clay-limestone soils. One of the oldest Trepat vineyards in the region, it is located between the villages of Sarral and Montbrió de la Marca.
Hand-harvested in late October - bear in mind that Trepat is a late-ripening variety - the grapes were fermented whole bunch with native yeasts in concrete diposits under controlled temperature. After that, Abadía de Poblet La Font Voltada 2017 was aged for 14 months in 600-litre used oak vats.
Gently aerate some time before drinking.
Pair this red wine from Conca de Barberà with cold meats, semi-hard cheeses and roasts.

gripping
This is quite special, kind of a mixture of a Barbera and a Pinot Noir, but with a vivacity which could only come from the nearby Mediterranean.
