Product Description
Details

A high-altitude varietal Pinot Noir, the red wine Acusp is made from vines planted at an altitude of 1,000 metres near the village of Tremp, in DO Costers del Segre, near the Catalan-French border.

This varietal Spanish red wine was crafted by the one and only Raül Bobet. A superb technician, he is one of the most accomplished winemakers in the world.

This wine was vinified in an interesting manner. Harvested by hand and meticulously selected, the Pinot grapes were brought to the cellar and then divided into two parts. The first part was fermented and macerated in stainless steel tanks. The second part was fermented in open-air stone vats dating back from the 12th century, when they were dug in the ground and hewn by the Medieval monks that inhabited the area.

Then the two wines were blended. After that, the red wine Acusp 2020 from bodega Castell d'Encús was transferred into French oak barrels. There, this Crianza red wine completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months.

We strongly suggest that you decant this red wine from Costers del Segre as it was neither filtered nor clarified before bottling.

12,200 bottles produced.

Appearance

The red wine Acusp is medium purple with a violet rim.

Nose

This high-altitude Pinot Noir shows lively aromas of blueberries and bilberries, a panoply of sweet and exotic spices, a nice bouquet of flowers and balsam and some hints of undergrowth, cold forest and dry stone. All in all, the wine has a breadth and an open-air, forest-like feeling which is simply enchanting.

Palate

The elegance and complexity of this wine of bodega Castell d'Encús winery is remarkable. Pure, linear and chiseled, with fruit of the highest quality and hints of blue flowers nuanced by notes of balsam, garrigue, dry stones, wet earth and resin. Masterly crafted and balanced, with a great acidity, refined tannins, and a very long finish.

Our personal opinion

Simply put, the red wine Acusp 2020 is a first-class wine that should grow in the bottle over the next years.

Who would have guessed that Spain - excuse me, Catalonia - could produce a Pinot able to compete with those from NZ and Oregon? Well, this is it!!

New Zealand and Burgundy meet in the Pyrenees foothills. This Pinot wino combines the best of two worlds.

A super-classy, highly intellectual, almost cerebral red wine from the southern side of the Pyrenees. Delicate, spacious, amazingly pure. It has real potential for improvement.
