Red Wine Aires de Garbet 2017
Availability: In stock
Crafted by the Castillo Perelada winery, this Spanish red wine is born in one the most magical spots of L'Empordà. (The place, incidentally, is not far from legendary El Bulli restaurant.)
There are 4 features that make Aires de Garbet an outstanding wine: the vicinity of the sea, the mighty northern wind called Tramuntana - a natural sanitizing agent - the deeply mineral slate soils, and the ever-present sunlight.
A varietal Grenache wine, it comes from vines planted in 1997 in Finca Garbet, a scenic vineyard directly facing the Mediterranean sea.
The grapes were manually harvested, fermented using indigenous yeasts and macerated for over a period of 20 days.
Then Aires de Garbet 2017 was aged for 14 months in 2nd year French oak barrels in order to preserve its varietal character. Finally, it was aged for a further months in the bottle before its release.
Decant this red wine from L'Empordà a minimum of 2 hours before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Aires de Garbet has a very bright, clean, high crimson-coloured robe with a violet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | This is a remarkably complex varietal Grenache. Notes of ripe berries and aromatic herbs, some toasted hints, notions of wild flowers, garrigue and even some salty touches. This Reserva red wine is nuanced by a dash of spices, notions of Arabica coffee and bitter chocolate, with some deep mineral undertones. |
Palate | Mildly extracted and crafted with restraint, this wine from Castillo de Perelada is, above all, fresh and refined. Wood is still a little prominent, but it will surely integrate within a few years. The fruit here, though, is of the highest quality. On the palate, the wine amplifies the sensations perceived on the nose, and also shows a velvety texture, some yet-to-tame tannins and a long, spellbinding finish with a deep mineral reverberation. |
Our personal opinion | A work-in-progress, Aires de Garbet 2017 will probably become a superb wine. Pair with hearty dishes. |
