Product Description
Details

A wine produced by the Gil Family through the Bodegas Atalaya brand, Alaya Tierra is born in the southern Spanish region of Almansa.

A single varietal Garnacha Tintorera - a very rare thing indeed -,  this Spanish red wine is made from old grapevines grown in sandy-limestone soils, located at an altitude of 1000 metres above sea level.

After a meticulous manual harvest, the grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Malolactic fermentation was carried out in new French and American oak barrels. After that, Alaya Tierra 2018 was aged in the barrels for over a period of 15 months.

Decant this Crianza red wine no less than 1 hour before drinking.

Appearance

The wine Alaya Tierra has a high, dense, dark cherry-coloured robe with a purple rim.

Nose

This rare single varietal Alicante Bouschet from Almansa exhibits an impressive parade of aromas, beginning with lively notes of wild berries, hints of vanilla, cocoa, and Mediterranean herbs, and some tips of tobacco and withered leaves over a background reminiscent of chalk, mineral and dry earth.

Palate

Meaty and bold, this Garnacha Tintorera by Bodegas Atalaya is really deep. Ripe fruit, toast, smoke and spices underpinned by some mineral and earthy notions. A deep sense of terroir, enlivened by a fresh acidity, some yummy tannins and long finish. This wine resolves the equation between boldness and freshness. It is dense, massive and meaty, but at the same time spirited and alive.

Our personal opinion

Quintessentially Mediterranean, Alaya Tierra 2018 is exuberant, age-worthy and very well-priced. It really needs some years to unfurl.

Pure Bliss!

When I thought I was broadening my wine knowledge and experience, I have in fact been narrowing it over the last 5 years!!!! Most of what's at the top of my list is rooted in the Chris Ringland/Juan Gil collaboration. There will be purists who will say....too fruit forward.....too jammy.... but for me this is near as good as it gets!!!!!

WOW

WOW!! This is really incredible. The darkest colour I've seen in a wine. It is incredibly concentrated and massive. The texture is chewey, but the best thing is, surprisingly, that the wine is amazingly profound and enjoyable. Super-complex and rich, I think it will grow in the bottle for the next 5 o 7 years.
