Product Description
This red wine from the Ribeira Sacra is crafted from the rare Merenzao grapes which are also known as Bastardo, María Ordoña, and Godello Tinto. Merenzao grapes are native to this region of Spain but are still rare even in these parts of Spain. These grapes have given us a very elegant wine that is fruity, well-structured, and very unique. This red wine, Algueira Merenzao from the Ribera Sacra region, is crafted from hand harvested Merenzao grapes. These grapes are cultivated on steep slopes that are oriented towards the south which creates very well insulated grapes. The grape clusters are harvested at time of low light to prevent any unintended pre-fermentations. After these grapes arrive at the winery they are processed through a selection table. The selected grapes are pressed whole and then transferred into French oak barrels for a prolonged maceration and fermentation at controlled temperatures. This wine is aged for 11 months in French oak barrels. We recommend that you aerate this wine at least 30 minutes before serving. In the last vintage of Algueira Merenzao, the Guía Peñín gave this wine the incredible score of 95/100! This is undoubtedly an amazing wine, one of the great wines of the world.

Additional Information
Appearance This wine has a violet color with ruby edges. There are visible notes of this wine´s youth. There is a good tear with mid-level layering that is round and slow to fall down the glass.
Nose The aromatics of Algueir Merenzao are full of juicy red fruits that are entwined by sweet floral notes, violets, honeysuckle, precious minerals, powerful earthy tones, and aromas that are very unique to the soils these grapes were cultivated in. This wine is very well representative of its nose and we like to always smell the nose of this wine before taking a sip.
Palate This is a luscious and round palate. It is lite but very tasty, with great acidity and pleasant fruity tannins that are contrasted by elegant acids. This palate is very long and the entire passage is elegant. Without a doubt, this is a great wine from start to finish.
Our personal opinion This wine is very inviting to drink. It is perfect to drink this wine alone, and it is also great when paired with countless different types of foods.
