Product Description

This is the new vintage of Algueira Risco Merenzao from Adega Algueira, a varietal Spanish red wine made solely from Merenzao. This refined grape variety, also known as Bastardo, María Ordoña and Trousseau, originated in the Jura region of France.

The grapes come from estate-owned vineyards located on the steep slopes of the Sil river, in DO Ribeira Sacra. South-oriented, the vines receive a lot of sunlight. Climate is Mediterranean with an Atlantic influence.

Hand-harvested at dawn, the grapes were selected and stomped whole bunch. After that, they were cold-macerated in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels for some hours. Then Algueira Risco Merenzao 2017 was fermented, blended and subsequently transferred into 225-litre French oak barrels, where it was aged for 6 months.

Finally, this red wine from Ribeira Sacra was bottled and aged for a further months before being released onto the market.

Aerate at least 30 minutes before drinking.

Although you can pair it with almost any dish you fancy, this wine is so elegant and subtle that we recommend enjoying it without food.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Algueira Risco Merenzao is medium cherry with ruby glints.

The aromatic qualities of the Merenzao variety are second to none. Violets and red roses, with subtle aromas of ripe cherries, forest floor and earth. The nose becomes ever more complex and expressive as the wine is exposed to air.

This wine from Adega Algueira is truly Burgundian in spirit. Poised and supple, with lots of inner energy, plenty of nuance, a stupendous acidity and round tannins. Medium-long finish with a floral and earthy aftertaste.
