Product Description

A branch of the legendary Vega Sicilia winery, Bodegas Alión was created with the aim of taking a fresh look at Ribera del Duero.

One of the finest examples of this new take is precisely Alión, a high-end Spanish red wine which ranks among the best in the region.

A varietal Tinto Fino, also known as Tempranillo, the grapes come from vines with an average age of 30 years, located near the town of Peñafiel.

They were selected twice, fully destemmed, macerated with the skins for a long period of time, and subsequently fermented in American wooden vats.

Afterwards, 90% of this red wine from Ribera del Duero was transferred into French and American oak barrels, 72% new. The remaining 10% was transferred into concrete vats. Both batches were aged for 12 months. Once the process was completed, Alión 2017 was gently filtered and bottled in May 2019.

Finally, this Crianza red wine was aged for 24 months in the bottle to soften its edges, thus achieving its unique, flawless texture.

Decant a minimum of 1 hour before drinking.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The wine Alión is deep garnet with some delicate purple tinges.

Refinement, character, complexity. This varietal Tinto Fino suggests some fresh, pristine notes of red fuit (cranberries, cherries, strawberries), alongside floral nuances, hints of toast and a spicy series (cardamom, fennel and clove). In the background, the wine insinuates some earthy and mineral aromas.

Classy and nuanced, this wine from Bodegas Alión has a lush texture, with intrincacy and detail. Pure sensations of brambles and blueberries, some mineral undertones, suggestions of cinnamon, clove and cocoa, some balsamic hints and remembrances of flowers. Crisp acidity, lively tannins, and long finish with some toasted and earthy remembrances.

Our personal opinion

At the risk of sounding cliché, the deep and age-worthy Alión 2017 is a most successful blend of tradition and modernity.

Almost world-class, but not yet. Give it 4 more years or so.

Store a bottle of this wine and open it with your family or friends simply to celebrate that you're alive and kicking. Because that's what this is: a celebration wine. Vega Sicilia in Ribera. Who could ask for anything more?
