Red Wine Almirez 2018
Availability: In stock
After a long and distinguished career in La Rioja, Marcos and Miguel Eguren started the Teso La Monja project in the DO Toro.
A varietal Tinta de Toro, Almirez is crafted from a blend of young vines - clones developed from ungrafted root-stock - and old vines up to 70 years of age. All of the vines are grown following environmentally friendly procedures and biodynamic practices in order to minimize human intervention.
The vines are planted in north-oriented soils composed of clay, limestone and gravel. Climate is continental.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented using indigenous yeasts. Then this Spanish red wine completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 14 months in 30% new and 70% used French oak barrels.
Decant Almirez 2018 30 minutes before drinking.
Appearance | The wine Almirez has a dark, high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Rich, sophisticated notes of jammy black fruit, cocoa, toast and tobacco. This single varietal Tinta de Toro also suggests aromas of violets, lavender, liquorice and balsam, nuanced by dim mineral notes. |
Palate | Smooth-bodied, round and full of character, Almirez from Teso La Monja is all about red fruit, spices, underbrush and minerality. Crunchy tannins, well-balanced acidity and a long, persistent finish with some remembrances of jammy black fruit. |
Our personal opinion | The delicious Almirez 2018 is a fabulous value from Toro. |
