Red Wine Alquez 2017
Red wine from Calatayud. Old-vines Grenache aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.
Availability: In stock
A single varietal Grenache wine, Alquez is made from grapes coming from low-yielding, over 60-year-old vines planted on slate soils at an altitude of 950 metres above sea level.
They were harvested during the second half of October and selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Destemmed and delicately crushed, they were macerated for 10 days prior to alcoholic fermentation.
After that, Alquez 2017 was aged in French oak barrels for 14 months with frequent stirrings of the lees in order to extract colour and phenolic compounds.
The old-vines Grenache Alquez has a medium cherry-coloured robe with some violet tinges.
This deep red wine from Calatayud conveys some intense notes of strawberries and raspberries, some mineral undertones, notes of chocolate and some hints of smoke and toffee.
Fresh and subtle, this old-vines Grenache shows notes of spices, red fruit, balsam and cocoa. Velvety bodied, with slightly dry tannins, great freshness and a long finish with remembrances of candied fruit, bitter herbs and chocolate.
|Our personal opinion||
An excellent value, Alquez 2017 faithfully conveys the remarkable character of the old Grenache vines from Aragón.
