Alto Las Pizarras 2011 is a Spanish red wine produced from very old Grenache vines grown at altitudes between 700 and 1000 metres above sea level and located in the northern Spanish region of Calatayud.
Crafted by the Bodegas y Viñedos del Jalón winery, this varietal red wine comes from vineyards over 60 years of age planted in slate soils, a feature that brings a distinctive depth and minerality to this wine.
Harvested by hand, the grapes were fermented for 20 days in stainless steel tanks, and subsequently aged in new French oak barrels of different sizes for a period of 11 months.
Decant 1 hour before drinking.
Right now, this wine is drinking nicely.

Appearance | Clean, bright, high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim. |
---|---|
Nose | Primary aromas of red and black fruit, nicely intertwined with aromas of vanilla, balsam and toast. As the wine opens, we perceive notes of sweet cherries, flowers, baked bread, hay and roasted coffee. |
Palate | Alto Las Pizarras 2011 is tense and well-structured, showing notions of ripe red berries, a delicately bitter touch, deep mineral notions, a touch of spices and remembrances of underbush. Well-balanced acidity and silky tannins. Long finish. |
Our personal opinion | Elegant, full-grown, profound red wine from Calatayud. Don't miss it! |
