Product Description

A single varietal Grenache wine, Alto Moncayo Veraton is produced in the mountainous region of Campo de Borja, located in the northern Spanish province of Aragón.

This Spanish red wine was crafted by the Alto Moncayo winery, a brand of Grupo Jorge Ordóñez, from 30 to 60-year-old vines planted on the hills of the Moncayo mountains. Soils are rocky and extremely poor, while climate is quite extreme.

Harvested by hand, the grapes of this Crianza red wine were carefully selected and vinified. Malolactic fermentation and the subsequent 16-month ageing period took place in new American and French oak barrels.

Not filtered prior to its bottling, Alto Moncayo Veraton 2016 should be decanted 1 hour before drinking.

This old-vines Grenache will evolve beautifully over the next years.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Alto Moncayo Veraton has an intense, bright, high cherry-coloured robe with a garnet rim.

This is a deep and exuberant old-vines Grenache from Campo de Borja. Prominent notes of balsam, along with loads of black fruit, some intimations of red berries, notions of grinded pepper, english custard and moka. On the background, subtle aromas of aromatic herbs, garrigue and dry earth.

Bold, slightly warm and well-structured, this red wine of the Alto Moncayo winery is smooth, with a velvety body and a great texture. Notes of liquor-infused fruit, balsam, flowers and dry earth, wrapped in some creamy nuances. Great acidity, ripe tannins and long, refreshing finish.

Our personal opinion

Elegant and savoury, Alto Moncayo Veraton 2016 has an excellent pleasure-value ratio.

First-class Grenache, not as sturdy as it may seem considering it is a Somontano. The winery has softened its procedures, and now the oak is less prominent.
