Red Wine Amadis 2015
Availability: In stock
This prestigious Spanish red wine belongs to the DOQ Priorat. Interestingly, the wine Amadis was named after the protagonist of a medieval knight´s tale, “Los Cuatro Libros del Virtuoso Caballero Amadís de Gaula.” In this ancient folk lore, the knight Amadís fought against monsters with superhuman powers and finally got the girl.
A blend of Grenache, Samsó (Carignan), Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot, the fermentation process of this red wine from Priorat lasted for 15 days in stainless steel tanks that were kept at a constant 27 ºC. After the first day of this fermentation process, the wine was pumped over five times a day to extract aromas and colour.
After finishing the process, this Crianza red wine was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Then, this wine of Celler Rotllan Torra remained in the cellar for some years before its commercial release.
The wine Amadis 2015 will undoubtedly improve in the bottle.
Decant a substantial period of time before drinking.
Appearance | The red wine Amadis has a medium-high cherry coloured robe with bright garnet edges. |
---|---|
Nose | This blend of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Samsó and Syrah is rather complex. Remembrances of old leather, tobacco, and stalks of dried herbs. Soon we discover toasted barrel notes, alongside lactic sensations, exotic vanilla notes, sweet plum jams, and refreshing balsamic aromatics intertwined with mineral notes. The complexity of the nose of this Priorat red wine becomes more intense by the minute, as it opens to the air and warms to room temperature. |
Palate | There is a certain initial astringency, which soon gives way to a well-defined and flavorful passage. This wine from the Rotllan Torra winery is palate-coating, well-structured, and lively. Tannins are lively, alongside some pleasant balsamic notes, exotic spices (clove and vanilla), and some toasted notes. There is very good acidity that is persistent. The finish is long, with a note of wild berry jams and a deep mineral core. |
Our personal opinion | This wine is not for everyone. Amadis 2015 certainly requires an experienced wine enthusiast to appreciate its excellence. This is a complex wine in both the nose and palate, with real depth and stunning concentration. |
