Product Description
Details

Very few wines showcase better than Ànima Negra ÀN the remarkable qualities of the indigenous grapes from beautiful Mallorca.

Produced by Ànima Negra Viticultors, the 2019 vintage of this Spanish red wine is essentially a varietal Callet, Mallorca's most important native variety, with a 5% of Manto Negro and Fogoneu.

The grapes are sourced from vineyards 40 to 60 years of age, planted in poor soils with an abundance of ferric oxide.

Harvested by hand in little boxes, once in the cellar the grape bunches were destemmed and vinified in 4,000-litre oak vats. After that, Ànima Negra ÀN 2021 completed the malo in new French oak barrels.

Finally, this Crianza red wine was aged for 18 months in those same barrels. The wine was racked halfway through the process.

It is important to decant this red wine from Mallorca 1 hour before drinking.

Pair with cured cheeses, roast recipes and spicy meat dishes.

Appearance

The red wine Ànima Negra ÀN is medium purple with some ruby tinges.

Nose

This blend of Callet, Manto Negro and Fogoneu has a compelling aromatic profile. Expressive aromas of Mediterranean underbrush, with hints of redcurrants and blueberries, wet earth, fresh tobacco, black olives, chocolate, red flowers and some dim mineral notions.

Palate

Quite sophisticated, with a first class acidity and plenty of information to assimilate. This wine from Ànima Negra Viticultors is medium-bodied, with a lush passage and an excellent definition. Long finish with remembrances of smoke, toast, berries and garrigue.

Our personal opinion

One of Mallorca's most representative wines, Ànima Negra ÀN 2021 is something quite special.

Slightly overpriced, but nevertheless very good. A little less oak would do it a huge good.

Big fan of mallorca wines. This and Gallinas y focas I have found particularly interesting. This has more substance and it will live in the bottle a good 6 years.

A favourite from Majorca. Classy, bright and fragrant. Silky body, with a controlled use of oak. Spices, flowers and a long aftertaste.
