Product Description
Details

This remarkable Spanish red wine is produced by Bodega Arzuaga Navarro, a winery founded in the mid 90s in DO Ribera del Duero.

The main variety of Arzuaga Reserva is Tinto Fino, nuanced by a 3% Merlot and a 2% Albillo, a native white variety. The grapes were mostly sourced from almost centenary vines planted in clay-limestone soils at 900 metres above sea level.

Harvested by hand and carefully selected on site and in the cellar, the grapes were partially destemmed, cold-macerated and slowly fermented in stainless steel tanks.

After that, Arzuaga Reserva 2019 was transferred into new French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation and was aged for 30 months.

Decant this red wine from Ribera del Duero 1 hour before drinking.

Pair this reserva red wine with hearty meat recipes, particularly game dishes.

Appearance

The red wine Arzuaga Reserva is medium purple with a crimson rim.

Nose

This blend of Tinto Fino, Merlot and Albillo needs some time to open up, after which it conveys a deep sense of terroir, nicely balanced by the ageing notes. Understated aromas of spices, flowers, toast and Havanna cigars, underlying a solid core of black fruit, balsam and dry earth.

Palate

This wine from Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro is serious and dignified, with a smooth body and a crisp, stimulating acidity. Characterstic and very well-defined, with layers of blackcurrants and blackberries, some balsamic and scrubland remembrances and a long, deeply mineral finish.

Our personal opinion

One of Ribera del Duero's modern classics, Arzuaga Reserva 2019 is a wine born to be paired with substantial meat dishes, particularly game.

Absolutely wonderful with game dishes. The palate is earthy and grainy, with a note of chocolate and herbs. Solid wine.

The old Ribera del Duero. Very deep, with great precision, always that melancholic Ribera note, plus a dense earthy layer and a tip of spices and dark fruit.
