Details

The new vintage of Atteca is, as usual, made solely from Grenache. It is produced by Bodega Ateca, a brand of the Juan Gil Family.

Born in the harsh Spanish region of Calatayud, Aragón, this Spanish red wine was crafted from very old vines, some of which are 100 years old. They are planted on slate soils at altitudes between 700 and 1,000 metres above sea level.

The grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks and subsequently transferred into French oak barrels. After that, Atteca 2020 was aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

We strongly suggest that you decant this old-vines Grenache at least 30 minutes before you drink it.

Appearance

The red wine Atteca is medium purple with some bluish glints and a violet rim.

Nose

Deep and intense, this old-vines Grenache begins with some smokey and creamy notes, followed by intense aromas of blueberries and raspberries, some hints of tobacoo and roasted coffee, as well as some mineral undertones and aromas of balsam and resin.

Palate

Smooth and well-balanced, this red wine of Bodega Ateca is fruit-driven and balanced, with well-integrated oak and a rewarding freshness. Juicy red fruit, notions of cocoa and sensations of dry earth over an underlying layer of minerality. Creamy and fresh, with ripe tannins, good acidity and a long, persistent finish.

Our personal opinion

Spicy, deep and fruit-forward, Atteca 2020 is an exceptional value from Aragón.

This garnacha from Aragón deserves a place among my favourites. Super deep and concentrated, nevertheless it keeps the freshness.
