Product Description

The wine Avancia Tinto Cuvée Mosteiro is a varietal Mencía wine produced by the Bodegas Avancia winery, owned by Jorge Ordóñez.

The grapes come from two vineyards, one planted in 1920 and the other in 1935; both of them in black, limestone soils.

Located at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level, the vineyards are oriented to the south to get the maximum amount of sunshine.

This red wine from Valdeorras was vinified in a traditional manner. Harvested in little boxes and carefully selected, the grapes were crushed by hand and fermented in new French oak barrels.

After that, this Spanish red wine was transferred into 2nd year French oak  barrels, where it was aged for 12 months.

Finally, this red wine from Valdeorras was not filtered prior to its bottling.

We suggest that you decant Avancia Tinto Cuvée Mosteiro 2013 a minimum of 1 hour before you drink it.

Drink now to 2022.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The wine Avancia Tinto Cuvée Mosteiro has a deep red colour with a garnet rim.

Nicely complex and ever-evolving, this old-vines Mencía smells of liquorice, fresh black fruit, red berries, spices and toast. On the background of this wine by Jorge Ordóñez, there are some creamy hints, a touch of blue flowers and some seductive mineral undertones .

Bold and smooth, Avancia from Valdeorras delivers a cascade of exultant red fruit (cranberries, raspberries), some toasted remembrances and a dash of wet earth and orange rind. There are some intringuing mineral, meaty and bloody undertones which really raise the complexity level. Crisp acidity, ripe tannins and a long, lively finish.

Our personal opinion

A excellent, age-worthy red from a region known for its white wines, Avancia Cuvée Mosteiro 2013 faithfully reflects the qualities of the Mencía variety, one of the great rediscovered red varieties of the last decades.

This is some profound stuff. Still a bit oaky, I think it will fully integrate in 2 or 3 years. Excellent anyway.
