The most interesting characteristic of Baigorri Belus is that it is made principally from Mazuelo (a.k.a. Carignan), a most uncommon thing for a Rioja red wine. The blend is complemented with Tempranillo and other native grapes from Rioja.
Meticulously harvested and selected, the uncrushed grapes were destemmed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with gentle pump-overs performed through gravity.
After that, this Crianza red wine was transferred into French oak barrels, where it completed malolactic fermentation. Then it was aged in new French oak barrels for a period of 8 months.
Finally, Baigorri Belus 2015 was further aged for 24 months in the bottle before its release.

The wine Baigorri Belus has a crimson coloured body with violet tinges.
Loads of blueberries, blackberries and redcurrants. After some aeration, this red wine from Bodegas Baigorri surprises us with marked black olives aromas alongside a creamy and spiced background.
The palate of this red wine from La Rioja Alavesa is elegant and intense, with a bold passage that is well structured. There is a very good balance between the tannins and the acidity. The aftertaste of this blend of Mazuelo and Tempranillo is long, accompanied by an aftertaste that pushes interesting floral sensations around the palate and nose.

Definitely, Baigorri Belus 2015 is not your ordinary Rioja red wine. A wine for connoisseurs and adventurous drinkers.
