The red wine Balandra is produced in the town of Torroja del Priorat, at the very heart of Catalonia's most prestigious wine region. This Spanish red wine, incidentally, takes its name from the street in which the winery is located.
Produced by the Rotllan Torra winery, the grapes were harvested in the second half of September. Then this red wine from Priorat was fermented at a controlled temperature with 3 daily pump-overs during the process, in order to enhance the colour and structure of the wine.
After that, Balandra 2016 was aged for 8 months in new American oak barrels. Finally, it was bottled and aged for a further 6 months before its release.
This Crianza red wine from Priorat will certainly improve in the bottle.
The red wine Balandra is bright cherry with a garnet rim.
Clean and intense, this blend of Grenache, Samsó and Cabernet Sauvignon begins with some delicately sweet aromas of ripe black fruit, particularly fragrant black plum, nuanced by some toasted notes, coffee aromas, and warm spices. Lactic notes reminiscent of custard and cinnamon, slowly evolving into balsam, garrigue and an intense minerality.
This red wine from the Rotllan Torra winery enters boldly onto the palate, showing some lively tannins and a solid structure. The wine, however, is very fresh thanks to its crisp acidity and deep minerality, nuanced by remembrances of Mediterranean herbs and flowers. Fruit is excellent - raspberries, redcurrants, bilberries - and the spicy notes remain on the background. Long, complex finish.

Though it might not have the most attractive packaging in the world, Balandra 2016 is a substantial and age-worthy Priorat that delivers pure drinking pleasure.
