Red Wine Bàrbara Forés El Templari 2017

First, this red wine is probably the only wine in the world made from a blend of Grenache and Morenillo, a local red variety that some years ago was on the brink of extinction and was rediscovered precisely by Bàrbara Forés.
The Morenillo grape, which is perfectly adapted to the harsh climatic conditions of Terra Alta, produces aromatic wines with a supple body, light colour and very good acidity. These wines are not overpowering, but gentle and mild.
So, this Spanish red wine is in a way rebuilding an connection to the land that was somehow severed over the course of time. This aim is also symbolized in the name of the wine, a reference to the Templar knights that inhabited the region many centuries ago.
As for the winemaking process of Bàrbara Forés El Templari 2017, the grapes were handpicked and separately vinified in stainless steel tanks. The process lasted 35 days for the Morenillo, and 28 for the Grenache.
Before its bottling, the wine was aged for 13 months in French oak barrels from Allier.
The red wine Bàrbara Forés El Templari has a very bright, lively, ripe strawberry colour with a rosy hue at the rim.
Very fresh and honest on the nose, this red wine from Terra Alta has a rich bouquet of ripe strawberries, black pepper, cherries and redcurrants. Some hints of mandarine orange over a dim background of fragrant resin, blue flowers and spices.
The palate is smooth, tense and extremely fresh. Loads of red fruit, hints of citrus, flowers, aromatic herbs and a supple, caressing body that is a pure delight. This blend of Grenache and Morenillo by Celler Bàrbara Forés is linear and focused, and has medium long finish with notes of undergrowth and garrigue.
|Our personal opinion||
The red wine Bàrbara Forés El Templari 2017 proposes a different paradigm for Mediterranean wines. One based on freshness, lightness and finesse.
