We're happy to present the new vintage of one of Spain's most attractive red wines: Barbazul, the younger brother of the prestigious Taberner.
Crafted by the Huerta de Albalá winery in Cádiz, the southernmost province of Spain, this Spanish red wine is made from Syrah, complemented with Merlot and the indigenous - and fortunately recovered - Tintilla de Rota, plus a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Each variety was vinified separately in stainless steel tanks. After the completion of alcoholic fermentation, maceration and malolactic fermentation, this red wine from Cádiz was blended and aged for over a period of 5 months in 3rd and 4th year French oak barrels from Allier.
Pleasant and elegant, Barbazul 2018, made from Tintilla de Rota, is a great all-rounder.
Appearance | The Spanish red wine Barbazul has a bright, dark cherry colour with a violet hue at the rim. |

Nose | Overall impression of harmony. This blend of Syrah, Merlot, Tintilla de Rota and Cabernet Sauvignon smells of ripe red fruit and flowers, nuanced by some creamy and spicy notions, such as vanilla, cocoa and cinnamon, plus a touch of fresh herbs. |
Palate | Fresh notes of raspberries, strawberries and blueberries, some hints of spices and ripe, yummy tannins. Richly layered, this red wine by the Huerta de Albalá winery has a gentle acidity, a velvety texture and a long, fruity finish. |
Our personal opinion | A fully enjoyable and nicely crafted wine, Barbazul 2018 is straightforward, but not dull. Honest, but not trivial. |
