A region known for its white wines, Galicia is the homeland of Bastión de la Luna, truly a different kind of Spanish red wine.
All of them come from old vines farmed following minimal intervention, environmentally friendly procedures.
Each of the three varieties was separately vinified in a traditional manner. After that, this red wine from Rías Baixas was aged for a period of 12 months in French oak barrels. A 20% of the wine, though, was aged in 2nd and 3rd year barrels in order not to imprint an excessive wooden character in the final product.
Finally, Bastión de la Luna 2017 was blended and aged for a further months in the bottle before its release.
This red wine from Rías Baixas opens tight, so we suggest that you decant it for at least 1 hour in order to enjoy its many niceties and nuances.
Production of only 4,000 bottles.
The red wine Bastión de la Luna has a very bright, clean cherry colour with a garnet rim.
To say that this wine from Rías Baixas has an original nose might well be an understatment. Red berries, cherries, tea leaves, broom and laurel. On the background, a salty remembrance and some mineral and herbal nuances. Astounding.
Fresh and light-bodied, this red wine by Forjas del Salnés is, again, extremely interesting and characteristic on the palate. Bold tannins, an intriguing salty touch, curiously bitter hints, very elegant, and notes of wild berries, alongside a watery remembrance and a dash of toast. Remarkable acidity and a long, mineral finish.
