Product Description

Crafted solely from Mencía by the Dominio de Tares winery, Bembibre is a remarkable Spanish red wine made from old vines.

Located in six different plots composed of slate and gravel with slopes up to 22% in the very heart of the DO El Bierzo, many of the grapevines are over 80 years of age.

Harvested by hand in 15-kg. boxes, the Mencía grapes were meticulously selected in the cellar. After being destemmed and gently crushed, they were fermented in stainless steel tanks for 25 days with frequent pump-overs and puch-downs.

After that, Bembibre 2015 completed malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, where it was also aged for a period of 16 months.

This remarkable red wine from El Bierzo was not filtered before its bottling.

Drink until 2025. Decant this old-vines Mencía 1 hour before drinking.

Additional Information
Additional Information

The red wine Bembibre has a clean, bright, high cherry-coloured robe with a violet rim.

Profound and characteristic, this Mencía from El Bierzo suggests some intense notes of cherries and raspberries, punctuated by some remembrances of plums. Hints of violets and rose petals, alongside deep mineral undertones, some herbal notions and aromas of tobacco and sandalwood.

Smooth and elegant, this crianza red wine by Dominio de Tares has a medium body and a detailed, lush texture. Notes of menthol, raspberries, dry earth and flowers. Excellent acidity, velvety tannins and very long finish with remembrances of cocoa, blood orange and wet earth.

Our personal opinion

One of the best expressions of the Mencía grape, Bembibre 2015 is a terroir-oriented wine which pairs fabulously well with game dishes and long, slow-cooked stews.

great bierzo
The wine deserves 4 stars right now, but I guess that in 4-5 years it will become a 5-star one. It is really deep and earthy.

Impressed by the elegance and personality of this wine. The nose is joyfully expressive, full of flowers and wild berries. Superb texture and a long finish with citrus, earth and a nice metallic tang.
