The flagship wine of the Beronia winery, Beronia Gran Reserva is made from the best estate-owned vineyards, located in la Rioja Alta.
The harvest of this Gran Reserva from La Rioja took place throughout October. The grapes completed both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
After that, the wine was transferred into French oak barrels, where it was aged for 27 months. During that period, this wine from La Rioja Alta was racked every 6 months.
Finally, Beronia Gran Reserva 2011 was aged for 36 months in the bottle before its commercial release.
We suggest that you aerate this Gran Reserva from Beronia 1 hour before drinking.
The 2009 vintage was rated 90 points by Robert Parker and 91 points by Guía Peñín.
Clean and bright, Beronia Gran Reserva has an intense garnet colour with a cherry-tinted rim.
As one could expect from a Gran Reserva from La Rioja, the tertiary notes -leather, old wood, tobacco- define the nose. As this blend of Tempranillo and Graciano opens the black fruit thrives, nuanced by spices and dry fruit, with a balsamic note in the background.
Intense, savoury and smoothened by the years, this Rioja Gran Reserva shows an effortless confidence and a rich array of flavours. Chocolate, licorice and spices, with a hint of aromatic herbs and a remembrance of flowers. Nice acidity and enjoyable tannins. This wine from Beronia has a long finish with an aftertaste of cacao, tobacco and other ageing notes.

Fresher and more spirited than one might expect considering its age, Beronia Gran Reserva 2011 is a treat. Great with red meat, Ibérico ham, cured cheeses or stews.
